The Funding Announcement We Never Made

A Year Ago, We Raised $3M

Hi, I'm Anoop.

About a year ago, Bruno raised $3M, and we didn't announce it at the time.

That wasn't an accident. Actions speak louder than words, and it’s much harder to build trust through actions. So instead of making a big announcement when the funding closed, we decided to keep building.

Over the last year, we've continued to grow rapidly. We've expanded the team, invested heavily in the product, and seen adoption continue to grow across startups and large enterprises alike.

More importantly, we've stayed focused on the principles that got us here in the first place.

What Hasn't Changed

Developers choose Bruno because it was different.

Local-first versus cloud-first.

Git-native versus proprietary collaboration/versioning.

Open formats versus lock-in.

Simple versus bloated.

Those ideas resonated with developers because they're not features. They're beliefs about how developer tools should work.

The funding hasn't changed those beliefs. If anything, it's allowed us to invest more aggressively in them.

Building for the Long Term

From the beginning, our goal has been to build a sustainable project that can serve developers for decades.

For us, that's thinking beyond short-term growth:

  • Building products that developers genuinely enjoy using.
  • Creating more value over time, then expanding access to it.
  • Growing by expanding the pie, not by creating more restrictions.
  • Making decisions that strengthen trust over time.

Over the last year, after raising funding, we didn’t move more features behind a paywall.

Instead, we made several previously paid features free for everyone, including gRPC support, WebSocket support, response visualization, terminal mode, and file mode.

That matters because trust is built through choices, not statements. We believe sustainable businesses are built by creating more value, not by creating more restrictions. As Bruno grows, we want all developers to benefit from the work we do, not just the ones that pay us.

That philosophy continues to guide us today.

What We're Investing In

Our goal isn't to build a giant platform or recreate the complexity that many developers came to Bruno to escape.

Today, developers use Bruno through:

  • Bruno Desktop
  • Bruno CLI
  • VS Code integration
  • Self-hosted API documentation
  • GitHub integrations
  • OpenCollection

OpenCollection is a big part of where we're investing.

Our goal is simple: create an open, developer-friendly format for API workflows that works naturally with Git and the rest of the software development lifecycle.

Not another proprietary standard or another cloud dependency. Just a simple, portable way to define and share API workflows. The same philosophy that shaped Bruno continues to shape OpenCollection.

Open, transparent, and developer-first.

Why Silverton

We spoke with a number of investors before making a decision.

Silverton Partners stood out because they shared our long-term perspective, have a track record of being founder-first, and are a local resource for our co-founder Ryan Reynolds in Austin, Texas.

We weren't looking for a partner that would push us toward short-term growth at all costs. We wanted people who understood our commitment to building durable products, supporting developers, and thinking in decades rather than quarters.

That alignment mattered more than the capital itself.

Looking Ahead

The last few years have exceeded anything we imagined when we started Bruno. We've built an incredible team and a product developers genuinely love.

And we've built a business that gives us the opportunity to think long term.

This investment helps us accelerate what we're already doing: improving the core product, investing in OpenCollection, expanding our tooling, and continuing to build software that fits naturally into developer workflows.

To everyone who has used Bruno, contributed to the project, shared feedback, reported bugs, written documentation, or trusted us with your workflows: thank you.

We're excited for what comes next.

Anoop, Ryan, and Team Bruno
